Members of the Missouris Shoal Chapter of the DAR presented Plattsburg Head Start with a donation earlier this month, resulting from the basket raffle held at the Plattsburg Forever Christmas celebration back in December. The funds will go to help support the children’s educational needs. Missouris Shoal Chapter

Missouris Shoal Chapter, DAR, opened their January 14, 2020, meeting at the First Christian Church, Lathrop, MO, with Margaret Stevens leading us in the Blessing of the food before we par took of the delicious Salad Luncheon brought by members.    Sue Jameson was our Hostess.

After the luncheon Valerie Coleman gave a very interesting program, DAR 101, showing us the National, State and Chapter offices and what their main jobs consist of so a person will know what to expect when they are elected.

Following the Program we worked on the Master Review and Year End Reports which is required to be sent to National by the 15th of this Month.

At this time we retired to the Sanctuary of the Church where there was a U.S. Flag to be used in our Ritual  led by Vice Regent Carmen Stoneking in the absence of Judy Wright, Regent.

When back in the meeting area Carmen Stoneking gave us the President General Denise Doring VanBuen’s message about Women of Purpose.

National Defense Report about Women in the Military beginning in WW I which was mostly Nurses was given by Lana Wright.  Now all jobs are open to Women in the Military.

The following Minute Reports were given: Community Service by Carmen Stoneking  - The  next recipient report has been submitted; Americanism by Carmen Stoneking - She reported that DAR has been helping immigrants become Naturalized Citizens since 1910 and she has a copy of the DAR Manual For Citizenship and would be willing to help immigrants become Naturalized Citizens in our area; American History by Carmen Stoneking – Hope to recognize the students who wrote essays at one of our DAR meetings. Plan to contact them; Commemorative Events by Margaret Stevens – Date when African American Citizens received right to vote,                   George Washington Birthday event on February 22; Conservation by Valerie Coleman – animals in Australian fires & Bird Count is President Weekend; DAR Museum by Carmen Stoneking – Desk & Bookcase owned for 200 years by the same family donated to the DAR Museum; Dar Schools by Margaret Stevens; Scholarship by Mary Tyrrell – Deadline is February lst. Information sent out; Service for Veterans by Lana Wright – Would like our Chapter to help with service in Gower recognizing veterans; Insignia by Anne Wolfe – Program in March; Native American Indians by Valerie Coleman – 1920, They were the last citizens to get the right to vote; Patriot of Month by Anne Wolfe – Will begin to interview a new Patriot; Women’s Issues by Mylissa Stutesman  - Presented 9 key issues affecting women around world from Global Citizens.

Vice Regent Stoneking called the Business Meeting to order by asking Anne Wolfe to give the Roll Call.  Anne reported that there are nine members and one visitor present.  The Vice Regent asked if there were any additions or corrections to the Printed Minutes previously given to each member. As there were none she states that they will stand approved as printed..  Treasurer Margaret Stevens gave the Financial Report. This report will be filed for audit.  There were no bills.

OLD BUSINESS:  DAR State Conference will be held April 16-19, 2020, Columbia, MO.  The  President General will arrive on Saturday,  Workshops will be on Thursday.  Members are encouraged to attend.  Regent Wright thanks everyone that helped with Wreaths Across American on December 14, 2019.    

NEW BUSINESS: Carmen Stoneking mailed checks to Fischer House, Kansas City, MO, and checks were presented to Plattsburg Head Start and Missouri Veterans Home, Cameron, MO from the Forever Christmas Basket Raffle in December.   

Invitation to the George Washington Birthday Celebration and Luncheon on February 22 at the Embassy Suites Hotel, KCI. Please let Regent Wright know if you plan to attend.  It is sponsored by the Sons of the American Revolution Kansas City Area Chapters. Reservations need to be made by February 15th

A thank you note was received from  the Plattsburg Food Pantry for items donated.  Another Thank you note was  read from Pat Jones for honoring her with the Community Service Award at the December meeting. A sympathy card was sent to Elenor Chipman in the passing of her son-in-law.  

Our next meeting will be Feb. 11, 2020, 1:00 p.m. at First Christian Church, Lathrop, MO.  Kay Peca will be the hostess and have the  Program  –  “U.S. Presidents.”   Community Service:  Great Am. Back Yard Bird Count.
